Matt and Michelle Barrow, Hope in Africa

Matt and Michelle Barrow have 4 married daughters and 8 grandchildren.  They were first involved in East Africa in 1990, visiting Uganda and Tanzania. They formed Child2Child in 1999, helping street boys in Kenya.  They worked for a five-year period in Kenya from 2012 to 2017, caring for former street boys, who they saw grow up into young men who are now making their way in Kenyan society.

Now back in Worthing, West Sussex, they have taken over a UK based registered charity, Hope for Lugazi, (in Uganda), and renamed it Hope in Africa, and expanded it to include Kenya and Malawi as well as Uganda.  HOPE stands for Helping Others Provide Education and Employment, and funds are raised through child sponsorship and specific project giving.

Are we not encouraged to be watchful and to stand firm in the faith? A team of wild horses won’t keep this couple away from serving their master.

They have come alongside six visionary African men who have a heart for Christian education and employment. These six men, in the three different countries, run one secondary school, four primary schools, one vocational college with drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and two church based micro finance projects to help employment, particularly in rural areas.  Matt and Michelle feel from God to support these existing works, as each of the men have a good track record of faithful ministry.

Matt and Michelle visit each of the works at least once per year, along with seeing the young men that they mentored in Kenya.
